Galen Collins, Ph.D., a noted hospitality educator and author, is the founder of the Hospitality College Consulting Services, an organization that provides innovative training and consulting services and products for educators and practitioners in the fields of customer service, operations, and technology.
He has spent more than 45 years in hospitality education and industry engagement, with much of that time at Northern Arizona University. As a founding faculty member of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, I’ve been fortunate to serve in a variety of academic leadership roles—including Executive Director, Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, Interim Dean of the School, and Associate Dean of the W. A. Franke College of Business. These roles have allowed me to support students, collaborate with dedicated colleagues, and contribute to building programs that prepare graduates for meaningful careers in hospitality and business.
Beyond the university, he has had the opportunity to consult and work with more than 30 organizations—from global brands like Marriott International, ClubCorp, Hilton, and Disney to the Arizona Office of Tourism and local hotel and restaurant operators. These collaborations focused on solving real-world challenges in operations, customer service, workforce development, cost control, and hospitality technology.
He is also a co-founder of the International Hospitality Information Technology Association and the author of several hospitality textbooks on technology and customer service. My research has been published in a range of academic journals, including Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, Journal of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Education, FIU Hospitality Review, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education, International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, International Hospitality Review, and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Cases.
Now serving as Professor Emeritus at NAU, he remains active in academic and professional communities—grateful for the journey so far and always eager to learn, support others, and contribute where I can.
In addition to my academic and consulting work, I have written five feature-length screenplays, several of which have received international recognition, including award recognition at global film festivals. My work explores themes of belonging, resilience, faith, and second chances, reflecting my belief that hospitality is more than an industry; it is a force for human connection in a divided world. Collins received his B.B.A. from the College of Business and his M.S. from the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University. He earned his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences at Nova Southeastern University.
